This was the centenary of the surf live savers. These are the volunteers who patrol the beaches throughout Australia over the summer months. There was about 8000 competitors, apparently second only to the Olympics in competitor numbers, from all over Australia. They compete in a number of different races both on the beach and in the water over a five day period, climaxing in the iron woman and man contest. It was difficult to see some of the events but big screens helped. We only had a couple of hours there but it was good to see.
